While searching for a retrievers to add to our pack, I found Meadow View Puppies listed in the AKC Marketplace. After sending an email inquiring on the current availability, Michael quickly responded. We exchanged numerous emails and texts. I was reluctant to place a nonrefundable $500 deposit based on a puppy’s photo so Michael readily invited us to come see the litter. When we arrived at his farm he had five puppies waiting in a pen so we could play and handle each of them. He was honest about disclosing a minor medical issue with one puppy. We had asked to see the parents and he released them from the kennel. Both were healthy and extremely friendly; Michael stated the dam was his personal hunting dog. Michael’s kennel is a self contained building and the dogs have a HUGE fenced in “pasture” to run. Everything appeared very clean and all five adult dogs I observed looked healthy and happy. We chose “Bella” who would have been my last choice based on photos! She is a healthy little 10 week old pup. She is very trainable; at the end of one week she knows her new name (Rooby), sit, walks fairly well on a leash, sleeps in her crate. Michael’s breeding dogs have been genetically tested by Embark; he is deliberate not to breed dogs that may develop inherited conditions. In addition a 2 year health guarantee against genetic diseases is provided with the sale. One thing stood out for me in the contract— the dog was to be returned to Meadow View if at any time the buyer or family could no longer care for it. This is a reflection of someone who cares about the dogs they sell. We also received a new puppy folder with AKC information, microchip instructions, contract and a large bag of puppy food.
We love our new puppy from Meadow View and, in my opinion, Michael is an ethical breeder and businessman.
